Creating A Tea Reception
by Benita Wheeler-McGirt, A.J.'s Sweet Wedding Moments
If you are like many brides these day, you may want to save money during your wedding reception. With a full dinner, the cost of the reception can be as high as $200 +/a head. So what is the solution? A tea reception. The food is quite simple. If you have the time and patience, you can create a wonderful reception.
There are wonderful places for a tea reception. A wonderful historical mansion or a romantic bed and breakfast can take you back to Victorian times. A park or garden is quite beautiful. A banquet room or fellowship hall at a church are affordable sites for your two o'clock tea reception.
For the tables, there are many creative ways to decorate. On the honor tables, rent or purchase, wonderful silver tea pots and fill with your favorite flowers. On the tea cups, you can have the name written on the cup for place seating.
For the guest tables, use two tea cups to symbolize you and the groom with a rose in each cup as a centerpiece on a lace doily. Sprinkle the table with rose petals for a more romantic feel. For place seating, use a simple white card with the guest name in silver ink.
The food for this quite simple. Scones, cookies, fruit, and tea sandwiches. You can serve tea hot or cold, depending if this is winter or summer affair. Wine or champagne are served for your wedding toast. You can keep this as creative as you like or as simple as you desire.
For the wedding cake, I would use a white cake with three tiers with a tiny tea cup filled with fresh roses as a cake topper.
The tea reception makes wonderful wedding reception for any bride.
